Oscar Mayer is recalling its Turkey Bacon products, which could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects several items distributed widely across the United States, as well as some exports to the British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong. The impacted packages are 36-ounce and 48-ounce packs of “Oscar Mayer Turkey BACON ORIGINAL.” They are all “use by” dates that range between July 18, 2025 and September 4, 2025.
The problem was first revealed after laboratory testing showed the risk of contamination. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) stated, “The problem was discovered after the establishment’s laboratory testing indicated the product may be contaminated with [Listeria monocytogenes].” If you’ve bought these products, throw them away without eating them. Instead, recycle them or take them back to the store where you purchased them.
Symptoms of Listeriosis
Listeriosis is a serious bacterial infection, with the potential for severe outcomes, especially among at-risk populations. Invasive listeriosis usually presents as fever with flu-like symptoms. Or you could be feeling extreme fatigue, severe muscle aches, headaches, confusion, and loss of balance. These symptoms usually appear within 14 days of eating food contaminated with the germ.
Pregnant people, newborns, and people over age 65 are at increased risk for severe disease from listeriosis. Similarly, individuals who are immunocompromised are at greater risk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes that “Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause an infection called listeriosis.” People who have symptoms or are worried about possible exposure should contact their healthcare provider for guidance.
Product Details and Safety Measures
The recalled items were manufactured from April 24, 2025, through June 11, 2025. They can be distinguished by lot codes “RS19,” “RS40” or “RS42” and UPC codes “071871548748” and “071871548793.” Kraft Heinz, parent company of Oscar Mayer, just announced a major move. As of July 3, 2025, volumized/spiralized vegetable producers have not received a single consumer report of illness associated with their products.
In response to the recall, Kraft Heinz stated, “In line with our safety protocols, we are actively working with all retail partners and distributors to remove the potentially impacted product from circulation.” The company promised consumers that product safety is their highest priority. Their dedication to safeguarding the futures of the families that place their faith in them is second to none.
Consumer Guidance
FSIS continues to encourage consumers who have purchased the recalled turkey bacon products to act immediately. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” they advised. It’s always important for consumers to be alert for and aware of food safety recalls. This is particularly critical when products are known to harm health.
