Olivia Munn Advocates for Early Breast Cancer Detection Following Personal Diagnosis

Olivia Munn, the acclaimed actress and model, recently shared her journey with breast cancer at the Los Angeles Magazine’s Women of Impact Luncheon on March 13, 2026. When Munn found out she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer in April 2023, she was relieved. Now, she’s become an impassioned early detection crusader and is encouraging other women to take the Lifetime Risk Assessment test, a free online questionnaire that will assess your risk of breast cancer.

The Lifetime Risk Assessment test considers all of these personal factors. These factors include your age, family history of breast cancer, when your menstruation started and your childbirth history. With a risk score of 37.3% (higher than the 20% high-risk threshold), Munn took action into her own hands and decided to act quickly. Although she had no symptoms before the test, her diagnosis suddenly made the reality of cancer very real.

After getting diagnosed, Munn didn’t waste any time. After going through these surgeries including a double mastectomy, an ovariectomy, and partial hysterectomy. By following these procedures, her risk score is back down to zero. She was thankful for the medical innovations that had enabled her to see the disease early.

Rather than trying to assess your own breast cancer risk, Munn urges you to talk to healthcare providers who can help guide you. She stated, “Like, life happens on a Tuesday. Like, it just happens. And you cannot expect it. And so every day, you should just be so present and grateful.”

Support from her husband, fellow comedian John Mulaney, has been instrumental during her battle with cancer. The newlyweds were married in 2024. They share parenting of a family that includes 4-year-old Malcolm and 2-year-old Mei Mei, who turns 2 this fall. Munn added that going through this otherwise difficult time with someone as supportive, funny, and creative as Mulaney has helped make it all worthwhile.

“There’s no better person in the world to me than my husband,” – Olivia Munn

Munn’s experience completely changed how she looks at life and raising a child. She reflected on how being confronted with the reality of not living has changed her focus. “And once you are faced with the possibility of death and not being here, it’s — for me, all I wanted were the little moments,” she said.

Looking back on her experience up to this point, Munn encourages women everywhere to be proactive in playing an active role in their health. That’s why she’s urging everyone to take the Lifetime Risk Assessment test so they’ll be the first to know if there’s a problem.

“I say it’s not the Christmases and the birthdays and the New Year’s that we remember,” – Olivia Munn
