One nursery in Northamptonshire has locked their doors for good. This decision comes on the heels of a staff member’s arrest on suspicion of sexual assault, subjecting many to deplorable safeguarding failures. The closure comes amidst mounting investigations by local authorities, police and OFSTED.
The incident prompted rapid response from the nursery leadership. They want to do everything in their power to keep those kids safe and healthy. In an open letter to parents Tuesday, Angela Green, the manager of the nursery, told parents they were “shocked and devastated” by the incident. In her communication with us, she made clear that the nursery is committed to doing everything the right way during this difficult moment.
Additionally, we want you, the parents to have confidence that even in this process, our staff has worked hard to go through every step. We have worked with external experts to orchestrate a robust and impartial investigation,” Green continued.
The nursery has begun supporting families in finding alternative childcare options and rumors are circulating that investigations continue. The local authority designated officer plays a part in assessing the risk, and Ofsted has already begun its own investigation.
Because the litigation is still pending concerning this case, the nursery is unable to make additional public statements. Green reiterated this limitation in her letter: “due to the nature of the investigation and active legal proceedings.”
As the investigation continues, the nursery remains deeply committed to providing a safe and supportive environment. Keeping all children safe is still their highest commitment. A representative from Child First Moulton expressed their commitment, stating, “The wellbeing and safety of the children in our care is our highest priority.”
Kris Holland continued to cover this evolving story for BBC News, Northamptonshire. The nursery’s recent closure comes during a period of investigation that has been unable to fully keep the troubling allegations made against the former staff member at bay.
