North Lincolnshire Council has made a strong start with its Fit for Free scheme. Since its launch in April, interest has been outstanding. 788 participants—an incredible number—had signed up by the end of July! Beyond the economic merits, this free program helps local people improve their health and well-being. Get eight weeks of complimentary access to local swimming pools and gym facilities, plus virtual fitness classes!
The Fit for Free initiative targets two specific groups: individuals aged 66 or older and those aged 16 and above with a learning disability. From the start, the council has targeted these groups. They specifically ensure that all community members have access to safe and affordable options to be active.
Councillor Rob Waltham, the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, highlighted the importance of this project in improving health and happiness in their communities.
“By removing financial barriers, we’re helping people stay active, connected and well, physically and mentally.” – Councillor Rob Waltham
This new program demonstrates the council’s strong commitment to public health and targets the social determinants of fitness. The project creates a powerful platform for Americans to interact with one another across their communities, all in the name of building healthier, happier lifestyles.
“Fit for Free is about more than just fitness – it’s about opportunity, connection and giving people the tools to live healthier, happier lives,” Waltham added.
The city council strongly believes that the Fit for Free program has been instrumental in helping their community stay healthy and active! It encourages their increased physical and mental wellbeing when so many are having difficulty keeping healthy. The provision of free access to fitness resources allows participants to explore various activities without the pressure of financial commitment.
As the program continues to grow in popularity, North Lincolnshire Council remains dedicated to supporting its residents through initiatives that foster well-being and community engagement.
