New Youth Employment Hub Empowers Herefordshire’s Young Workforce

A newly established youth employment hub in Herefordshire is making significant strides in supporting young people aged 16 to 24 who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). This initiative, led by coordinator Amy Tommey, aims to bridge the gap in support for young individuals who may have fallen through the cracks after leaving school or college. The hub is already assisting more than 90 young people, providing them with the necessary resources and guidance to navigate their career paths.

Ethan Edwards, a 22-year-old aspiring sports coach, was among the first to benefit from the hub's services. After facing challenges with job stability following college, he found a pathway to achieve his career goal with the hub's assistance. Edwards is soon to start an apprenticeship with local sports coaching company Activate, fulfilling his long-held ambition.

"When I left college, I went straight into a job, [was] promised a certain amount of hours, and then they gradually dropped," said Ethan Edwards.

Additionally, Mhia Evans, 21, is another young individual currently receiving support from the hub. Evans credits the hub with helping her expand her career possibilities and enhance her personal development.

"They've really helped me broaden my horizons as to what I want to do in the future and they've really helped me with my CV and to build my confidence," stated Mhia Evans.

The hub's mission extends beyond mere employment placement; it focuses on instilling confidence and providing a clear direction for those uncertain about their next steps. The comprehensive support offered encompasses skills development, guidance on employment opportunities, and assistance in building professional resumes.

Amy Tommey, the driving force behind this initiative, expressed optimism about the hub's capacity to fill a critical gap in support for young people in Herefordshire.

"We're hoping the hub can provide that and it seems to have done so far," remarked Amy Tommey.
