Ashley Fox, the Member of Parliament for Bridgwater, has been on fire lately! Last piece of the puzzle—a new school is scheduled to break ground in fall 2026 in the area. This bipartisan initiative addresses the serious state of neglect and disrepair of many existing school facilities. More than anything, it produces a first-class, 21st century learning environment for students. We’re excited to welcome students into the new school in September 2028. This anticipated timeline is contingent on obtaining the necessary outline planning permission.
Fox played up just how important this development is. He said that it shows a deep commitment to improving the educational infrastructure of the region. The new proposed school would be a replacement school for the existing school that has been found to have failures. As exciting as the expected school construction is, it pales in comparison to what’s really needed to improve our schools across the country.
The planning phase is where the real power lies in the process. It creates the potential and the blueprint for what the new building will be. Community engagement and input are expected as part of this planning stage to ensure that the new school meets the needs of local families and students.

In addition to this announcement, a spokesperson for the Department for Education (DfE) highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to improving school infrastructure across the country. They noted, “We have increased investment to £2.1bn this financial year to improve the condition of school buildings, on top of the continuing School Rebuilding Programme.” This investment is part of a larger effort to improve our educational facilities and further ensure student positive learning environments.
Fox then thanked everyone working to keep the nation at the forefront of educational excellence in the face of an uncertain present and future. He remarked, “That’s a credit to the staff, leadership, and wider school community.” His message demonstrates appreciation for teachers who are still delivering high-quality learning even when the conditions call for fresh new school infrastructure.
