The long-awaited upcoming new Harry Potter television show just officially announced its main cast. They’re taking on the iconic characters of Harry, Hermione, and Ron! Our very own Harry Potter Dominic McLaughlin will be portraying the boy wizard. Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. This faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series will enchant audiences for seven seasons. Each season will revolve around one of the books, expanding the plot and characters in a new direction.
The original movie adaptations featured all-star casts. When Daniel Radcliffe starred as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley. These actors achieved outrageous levels of fame during the runs of the franchise, and they all look back warmly on their time in the franchise. Radcliffe remarked on the significance of the franchise in his life, stating, “I’m always genuinely very honored when someone comes up and says, ‘You were a huge part of my childhood.’” Grint reflected this too, remarking, “It was all of our childhood. We grew up on those sets. I don’t know, I mean it was obviously a very freaky, weird upbringing, but it was just an unbelievably creative, fun upbringing. Watson expressed her deep connection to the series, declaring that “Harry Potter was my home, my family, my world, and Hermione (still is) my favorite fictional character of all time.”
Though the original cast have accepted and taken ownership of their history, the new series is already coming under fire largely because of Rowling’s abhorrent opinions. The TERF – trans-exclusionary radical feminist – author’s incendiary comments have created quite a stir. She applauded an Oct. 1 U.K. Supreme Court ruling that would bar transgender women from being legally recognized as women under Britain’s Equality Act. Despite this backlash, HBO’s Casey Bloys stated that the show has not been impacted by Rowling’s opinions.
“It hasn’t affected the casting or hiring of writers or production staff or anything, so we haven’t felt any impact from that,” Bloys explained. He further emphasized that “Harry Potter is not being secretly infused with anything” related to Rowling’s views. Even so, he conceded that she was entitled to her views, adding, “And she’s entitled to those views. And I think folks would agree that she ought to get them.
The new series explores the in-depth storylines of those classic novels. So far, the series has lived up to that promise, introducing a whole new side of the wizarding world to viewers. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod were instrumental in creating the series. TCAA’s terrific Creatives and Producers shared with us their vision and excitement for casting the three leads. Casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann conducted a remarkable worldwide search. So it is with great excitement that today, we introduce our very own Harry, Hermione, and Ron! The piquant magic of these three distinct performers brings it to a incandescent life. Neither can the rest of the world—and we’re so excited to see their magic together onscreen!
It will be starring high-profile performers such as John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost. With a focus on character development and storytelling, the production team aims to create a faithful adaptation that resonates with both longtime fans and newcomers.
