Netflix’s award-winning comedy Nobody Wants This will be coming back for a smart, sophisticated third season. Created by Erin Foster, the show has captivated audiences worldwide, ranking on Netflix’s TV charts in 89 countries since its premiere in September 2024. The series stars Adam Brody and Kristen Bell as Noah and Joanne respectively. Together, they deftly explore the challenges of an interfaith relationship, providing plenty of laughs and emotional depth that keep audiences hooked.
The first season introduced fans to the challenges faced by Noah, who is offered a position as head rabbi at Temple Chai, and Joanne, an agnostic sex podcaster. Inspired in part by Foster’s own conversion to Judaism, the show explores the challenges posed by their new relationship and those cringeworthy convergences of faith and desire. The second season is sure to continue exploring their more complicated relationship while bringing in new competitors and personalities.
New Cast Members Join the Ensemble
Next season’s going to introduce quite a few new faces to the cast, including Leighton Meester, Arian Moayed, and Alex Karpovsky. Adding a whole other level of trouble for Joanne, Meester stars as Abby, a momfluencer who’s Joanne’s “middle school nemesis.” These additions will bring new dimensions to the new and old relationships. They will, however, make Noah and Joanne’s path to being together even more difficult.
Returning cast members include Emily Arlook, Paul Ben-Victor, Shiloh Berman, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Faracy, Tovah Feldshuh, Michael Hitchcock, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, and Jackie Tohn. Retired and current thespians of the stage will provide a different flavor and energy to this work. Their performances will heighten the comedy and romance that’s drawn in audiences.
Changes in Leadership for Season 2
As Nobody Wants This moves into its next chapter, the creative team will be undergoing some changes. For the new season, Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will take over as showrunners. Erin Foster returning as an executive producer and writer makes sure that her vision for the series still shapes its direction.
With a new administration, fans are running wild with speculation. In particular, they are curious about how the new showrunners will shape the tone and overall storytelling of the series. Kristen Bell, who voices the title character, has spoken about her excitement over the changing dynamics in the show.
“The world has been built out beautifully in a very grounded, realistic way. Because, look, you fall in love with someone and for a while it’s just you and them. The world doesn’t exist. And then slowly the world starts peeking in and you two have to coexist in the world that sometimes can be shocking.” – Kristen Bell
Maintaining the Spark in Season 2
As the characters enter a new phase of their relationship, both Brody and Bell have voiced their hopes for maintaining the chemistry that made the first season successful. Brody commented on how difficult it was to maintain the romantic escapade of their lives while addressing the more day-to-day, mundane parts of their lives.
“My fear was, one of the things that worked so well in the first season is the romance and all these firsts that are so naturally romantic and sexy: first kiss, first time being with each other, first breakup, first makeup, et cetera. Now that we’re a little more domesticated, will it still have that spark? I think it does, but we’ll see.” – Adam Brody
Bell admitted that certain aspects will shift as the characters grow. The dedication to authentic storytelling is still at the heart of what makes the show special.
“They’ve really committed to trying to isolate what people want from these characters in this show and not just trying to make it … it’s not like we just got a bigger budget and now there’s a bunch of fancy stuff happening,” – Kristen Bell
