In a remarkable display of batting, Mohammad Haris scored 107 runs off just 46 balls, leading Pakistan to victory in the third T20 International against Bangladesh. On October 23, Pakistan successfully chased down a 197-run target in the opening match. This victory completed a clean sweep of the three-match series.
In fact, in addition to his six sixes, Haris hit 8 fours — a feast for the eyes. He put on a pivotal 92-run partnership with Saim Ayub that pretty much paved the way for the successful chase. After Ayub’s dismissal, Haris took on the role of the main hitter, maintaining a high scoring rate and keeping Bangladesh out of contention for most of Pakistan’s innings.
“I tried to learn from my mistakes and didn’t want to waste this opportunity that I got to play in this series,” Haris stated after his impressive performance.
Haris played with a very uncomplicated method at the crease, basic plan of “see ball, hit ball”. He talked about not wanting to play any adventitious shots, an attitude that helped him compile a razzle-dazzle nerveless century. His fierce hitting skills made him capable of regularly targeting the ropes and producing runs quickly to keep Pakistan on the front foot.
Salman, his batting partner in the second half of the innings, praised the team’s approach. “We want to test ourselves where things become difficult, and we wanted to chase to put the boys under pressure,” he explained.
The game finished with Haris and Salman on the field. Their hard work allowed Pakistan to get the winning runs and take the series with a 3-0 victory over Bangladesh. Haris’s exceptional performance not only earned him the Player of the Match award but reflected his determination to improve after recent struggles in international cricket.
When Haris accepted the award, he couldn’t stop smiling, obviously very pleased by the role he played in leading his team to victory. His century was instrumental in keeping the scoring rate soaring as Pakistan chased down the target without any hustle and bustle.
