Mike Tindall recently opened up about the first time he met his wife, Zara Tindall, revealing that she found him “boring.” These honest confessions about their experience in the family come as they are celebrating their wedding and new life together. The long married couple still makes headlines—and for good reason. They’ve just celebrated Zara’s 44th birthday on May 15th.
Her other granddaughter, Zara Tindall, a royal horsewoman, just celebrated her 44th birthday. Mike Tindall posted a beautiful photo from the small celebration to social media. The widely shared image showed the duo smiling with cocktail glasses filled with fizz in hand, beaming over their long-lasting partnership. Mike Tindall, 46 today, remembers that first call warmly as it came in the midst of a dark period. Least of all Martin, who months earlier had suffered disillusionment at being dropped from the 2003 Rugby World Cup semi-final.
Despite that underwhelming opening, Mike is confident that he’s since changed Zara’s impression of him. He added,
“No, I think the boring chat was the first time we met and I’d just been dropped from the Rugby World Cup semi-final so I probably really wasn’t in the mood at that point.”
The couple’s romance deepened soon after their initial encounter. On 19 December 2010, Mike proposed with an engagement ring costing £140,000 and they got engaged that day. They exchanged vows in a picturesque ceremony in Scotland in 2011 and have since welcomed three children: Mia, born in 2014, Lena, born in 2018, and Lucas, who joined the family in March 2021.
“I would hope that I’ve made up for it and she’s probably gone the other way on her first thoughts.”
In honor of Zara’s 13th birthday this year, Mike treated her to a stay at the famous golf resort the Belfry. When I saw this one, I knew it would be just the right thing for her 1st birthday party, he said.
Mike’s fundraising event, Tindall Golf, paid tribute to Zara on social media with a heartfelt message:
“It was her birthday yesterday and I truly spoiled her by bringing her to the world-class Belfry.”
He added that she enjoyed spending time with friends, stating,
“She got to hang out with 70 people she only sees once a year; it was exactly what she wanted for her birthday.”
