Messi Shines with Two Assists as Inter Miami Edges Atlas in Leagues Cup

Lionel Messi once again proved he’s not of this world. His two key assists lifted Inter Miami to a 2-1 triumph against Mexico’s Atlas SC in the Leagues Cup opener for both teams at Chase Stadium. Messi, short of a one-game suspension, didn’t discourage him. He had a major influence on the game and proved once again that he is one of the cornerstones for the team’s success.

The contest played out in a raucous atmosphere at the home of MLS new boys Charlotte FC, with Messi instrumental in both of Inter Miami’s goals. He then set up Telasco Segovia’s opener, scored in the 58th minute. Receiving a precise through ball from Sergio Busquets, Messi deftly set up Segovia for an easy finish, giving Miami a crucial 1-0 lead.

When it came down to the wire, Messi was the hero one more time. In the 10th minute of the stoppage time, he assisted Marcelo Weigandt’s winning goal and became the hero of the match. Messi’s last-minute assist was a thing of beauty that highlighted his talent for coming through in big moments. He was a key part of the team’s victory at Miami.

Messi made five assists in July, demonstrating his greatness as a playmaker. He put on a brilliant display in this time frame, netting eight goals. That accomplishment helped him become named MLS Player of the Month and led to Miami’s 4-1-1 record in league play.

Although Messi is now 38 years old, his abilities and vision on the field are still without parallel. He came back and had a nice performance, returning from suspension for missing the MLS All-Star game. Instead of stopping him, this motivated him and made him do better.

He mentioned how crucial the Leagues Cup has been for Inter Miami.

“I think we did a great job against a great team.” – Lionel Messi

Messi soaked in the glory with his Argentinian compatriot Rodrigo De Paul and compatriot Luis Suarez. Their friendship has been key to the trio’s success this season. His partnership with fellow player Jordi Alba, who served a one-game suspension, adds depth and synergy to the squad.
