American Independence Day was the perfect occasion for Meghan Markle to give us even more private, warm snapshots of her family life online. She clogged up everyone’s Insta feed on July 4 with beautiful purple explosions. The photos reflected an amazing combination of delicious holiday food masterpieces and much-loved personal history. This celebration not only marked the holiday, but brought attention to a more personal link to her former life with Prince Harry.
In her recently Instagram post, Markle revealed one of her favorite memories from when she was dating Prince Harry. She remembered their second official date, which was on July 4, 2016. “Our second date was the 4th of July 2016 and H brought me cupcakes to celebrate,” she shared. This surprise highlights a feeling that Harry expressed in his memoir, Spare. In it he looks back to the beginning of their new blooming love affair.
The celebrations featured delicious cupcakes that Markle baked with the couple’s kids, Archie and Lilibet. This year marks a continuation of the tradition that began on their second date, as she noted, “Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition.” Their children’s participation is a testament to how these family traditions have adapted over generations.
Markle didn’t pull her punches with cupcakes. In addition, she prepared a gorgeous cheese and fruit board, designed with the vibrant red, white, and blue of Old Glory. The cheese board with watermelon wedges, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and different cheeses. Importantly, one of the cheeses was cut into tiny stars to mimic the stars on the American flag. Markle wove her signature raspberry jam into this deal, which launched earlier this year with her lifestyle brand.
To go along with her delicious culinary spread, Markle mixed up a delicious raspberry gin and tonic. She simply mashed fresh raspberries and added them to a glass already filled with ice, gin and tonic water. To complete, she garnished it with blueberries and mint grown in her California garden. This delicious combination is a perfect example of her dedication to featuring fresh ingredients and celebrating the flavors of summer.
