Martin Short Takes Time Off Following Tragic Passing of Daughter Katherine

Martin Short is stepping back from his comedy tour following the death of his daughter, Katherine Short, who passed away on Monday at the age of 42. The loss has taken a toll on the 75-year-old comedian’s spirit. He has chosen to remove himself from the spotlight to mourn and come to terms with the loss of his cherished daughter.

Katherine Short, a licensed clinical social worker, who committed her professional life to empowering others. Previously, she worked in private practice, but collaborated with Amae Health. There, she focused on making mental health resources available, while increasing community outreach. Her devotion to making the world a better place for everyone around her endeared her to folks in her community and beyond.

Short had been set to appear with his “Only Murders in the Building” costar Steve Martin. The two will begin their Presidents’ Day public tour with a concert in Washington, D.C. on March 13th. They’ll be keeping fans amused right through October, too! The recent tragedy has understandably shifted his focus.

According to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office, Katherine Short died by suicide. Unfortunately, this news has sent shockwaves through all those who knew her. Martin Short shared that he has found great joy in his life, particularly through his relationships with his children and friends, despite the challenges he has faced. He reflected on the pressures of his career, stating, “Working 15 hours a day? I think it’s unbecoming at 72 to be 100 percent obsessed with your career.”

Katherine was Martin Short’s daughter, by his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010. Together, they had three children: Oliver, born in 1986; Henry, born in 1989; and Katherine. The family has experienced unspeakable loss yet are united as a family in the fight against this cruel disease.

Our friends and family have contributed many memories in remembrance of Katherine that we wish to share publicly. They remember her as an artist who made the world more beautiful and joyful. She will just leave an imprint on everybody around her. All who knew her will remember her very dearly.
