The six-time MotoGP world champion, Marc Marquez, completed the most incredible comeback win in the history of the Hungarian Grand Prix today. This win is his seventh in a row sprint-race double. Since June, Marquez has remained undefeated, and with this latest win, he is rapidly closing in on another riders’ title. The race proved his mastery and tactical ingenuity on the racetrack, especially when it came to managing his tyres and timing.
To start the race, Marquez shot out like a cannon. This blistering launch shot him into the early lead as he swept into turn one. A run-in with Marco Bezzecchi’s Aprillia slowed him down, briefly sending him down to 4th place. Even with this initial disappointment, Marquez did not lose his drive and promptly shifted his course of action. Smartly on medium compound tyres, he bided his time until his tyres were at the right operating temperature before pouncing.
Strategic Moves and Rising to the Challenge
After getting his tyres fully warmed, Marquez proved himself as one of the smartest racers in history recovering to second place. He closely followed Bezzecchi, staying on the rear wheel of the Aprilia as they exchanged leads throughout the race. The strategic decision to use medium tyres proved pivotal for Marquez as he was able to maintain grip when others began to falter.
On lap 11, Marquez took full advantage to retake the lead himself, using Bezzecchi’s slipstream. “When I saw that the soft rear tyres started to drop – I was with the medium – I started to attack,” Marquez remarked after the race. From there, he then pulled away from the field in a show of speed, poise, and purpose that echoed throughout the grandstands.
Celebrating Victory with Team Spirit
Once he had retaken control of the race, Marquez put on a clinic, riding away from the competition in dominating fashion. His smart tyre strategy was crucial in giving him the time he needed to clinch the lead with a few laps remaining. He had a very good gap when he crossed the line. After his win, Marquez toasted success with his fellow Ducati personnel, thanking them for all the effort made before the race weekend.
“I just want to thank every one of them because yesterday they were working until 2am in the morning to just bring two completely new bikes for this race,” expressed Pedro Acosta, highlighting the team’s dedication and effort.
Until that time, as Marquez is on an historic run, he definitely is a heavy favorite to win the title once again. Just as he deftly avoids trouble on the circuit, so does his creative work. Armed with a comprehensive game plan, he’s proven to be the best pre-event favorite for a second crown.
