As we saw at last year’s Trooping the Colour in 2025, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo now handles Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Their parents, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, were on hand for the ceremony. Borrallo, a Norland nanny, has been an important figure in the royal family since the birth of Prince George in 2013. She provides the best possible care to the little royals.
Borrallo hails from Spain and was trained at the internationally-renowned Norland College in Bath. This college is renowned for producing incredibly skilled early educators. Graduates from this institution are in high demand due to their knowledge and skills in child development and early care. BOBBY CAVANAUGH/CGA Borrallo joined the family when George was only six months old. Since then, she’s absorbed several other roles as well, like ensuring her kids are fed and helping coordinate their school day schedules with pick up and drop off.
Her role extends beyond basic childcare. Borrallo regularly checks that all the children’s clothes and shoes fit properly, and are properly labelled. This personal relationship plus attention to detail shows her dedication to giving the young royals a solid upbringing with a strong structure and nurturing environment. Additionally, she has been spotted attending significant family events, including the weddings of Pippa Middleton and James Matthews in 2017 and Princess Eugenie.
Borrallo frequently accompanies the royal family on public appearances. Throughout these workshops, she documents beautiful moments spontaneously on her phone. Her ability to attend high-profile events is a testament to the trust and family connection she has clearly fostered with the Phelps family over the years. She gave a memorable performance snapping the troops at the 2023 Trooping the Colour. This action made clear her longstanding commitment to the centrality of family.
As a childcare specialist, Borrallo lives out the idea of getting children involved with and taking ownership of their own learning. Louenna Hood, an expert in childcare, emphasizes the importance of making learning enjoyable:
“A nanny will also be expected to support each child with their homework and make it as fun and interesting as possible.” – Louenna Hood
Hood further explains that adapting learning environments can foster enthusiasm among children:
“Depending on how each individual child learns, we might set up a homework station in the garden or in an indoor den, to stop boredom and resistance setting in.” – Louenna Hood
Borrallo’s approach to care aligns with Hood’s philosophy, emphasizing that teaching essential life skills is as critical as fulfilling daily tasks.
“It can be as simple as making their bed in the morning or learning to make scrambled eggs for breakfast. We become their teachers and it’s more important that we teach these skills than just do the tasks ourselves.” – Louenna Hood
