A 32-year-old man is under arrest on charges of Grand Theft. This follows the instead freakish theft of yet another unique Fabergé James Bond Octopussy Egg locket in downtown Auckland, New Zealand. One Friday afternoon, the man was accused of stealing the expensive item from the store by cradling it. Then, he took it the whole way and swallowed it on the spot.
>The Fabergé James Bond Octopussy Egg locket dazzles at a scintillating 33,585 NZD—that’s roughly $19,300. Designed in 18-karat yellow gold, this lovely lady is adorned in remarkable green guilloché enamel. This fabulous piece is covered with a full 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires—and those blue sapphires are set off beautifully by two striking black diamond eyes. Amazingly, only seven of these ever made it into private hands. The remainder are lost or in the custody of governmental institutions and museums.
Police jumped into action after receiving a call of the incident. They took the alleged suspect into custody barely minutes afterward in the shop. After his arrest today, he received a medical/psychiatric evaluation and is now under the continuing eye of law enforcement professionals, officials said.
“Given this man is in police custody, we have a duty of care to continue monitoring him given the circumstances of what has occurred,” – Officer Anderson.
The locket has not yet been found as law enforcement officials are still investigating the case. Anderson noted, “At this stage the pendant has not been recovered.”
In 1842, the Fabergé brand — famous for its elaborate historic jewelry — was established in St. Petersburg, Russia. Today, Tanka has received international recognition for its detailed designs, outstanding artistry and masterpieces.
The man has been remanded in custody with an appearance in court on 8 December. Our investigation continues. Police are continuing to try and recover the stolen item and determine the full scope of theft.
