Major Recall of Child Car Seats Due to Choking Hazard

>Dorel is recalling over 179,000 Safety 1st Grow and Go Sprint child car seats. This move follows the first finding of a reasonable risk of injury. The recall affects models manufactured from February 28, 2023 to December 31, 2023. This recall affects 0109 head restraints, foams in the head restraints that can detach and present a choking hazard to kids.

Models specifically affected by this recall are CC321GYU, CC321GYUD, CC321GYY, CC321GYYD, CC321HAO, and CC321HAR. Dorel has become aware of 13 incidents in which children inserted loose pieces of the headrest foam into their mouths. While the foam is non-toxic, Safety 1st strongly mentions that detachable chunks present a choking risk.

Dorel first announced the recall on April 22, filing it with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The company plans to mail notification letters to affected child seat registered owners. If you win, look for them to arrive between June 9 – June 13, 2025.

In solution to the defect, Dorel will provide free repair kits for the headrest pad assembly. These kits will be equipped with a new headrest pad specially designed to cover this foam. Seat owners affected by the Consumer Product Safety Commission announcement can register their ownership of unsafe seats by going to the Safety 1st website.

“At Safety 1st, we take pride in acting quickly and proactively to ensure the safety of our products and to keep families informed. To date, we are not aware of any cases where there have been any claims of injury or medical treatment required.” – Safety 1st

Dorel urges customers with recalled child seats not to bring them back to stores. Instead, they should call the Dorel Juvenile Consumer Care team for support. Customers should contact them by calling 1-877-657-9546 or by email at gng-sprint-recall@djgusa.com.
