Major Expansion Project Underway at Bingley Grammar

Bingley Grammar School is preparing to be one of the first major renovations! This fantastic and innovative work is supported by grant funding made available through the Government’s Department for Education. This audacious campaign is aimed at fixing public school buildings. It focuses on increasing their capacity so they can more effectively serve their local students, particularly those that require special educational services.

The renovation project, which included building classrooms and studios, will turn the old music block into a 24-place Resourced Provision. This area will be particularly welcoming to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The school community is particularly happy to celebrate the removal of a long dilapidated, and recently demolished, swimming pool. They’ll be constructing a new, high-tech, modular facility that will add three brand new classrooms! In total the expansion will lead to the creation of 18 new classrooms and an additional 150 secondary school spaces.

Bingley Grammar was scheduled for a full rebuild under the now defunct Building Schools for the Future programme. The proposal was canceled in 2010 before any work ever started. The current project reflects a renewed commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure, despite rising construction costs affecting budgets across the country.

On Tuesday, councillors’ readiness to critically examine a proposal will be put to the test. The plan is for the government to provide an additional £3 million of grant funding to finish the project at Bingley Grammar. The overall project’s estimated cost is £14.3 million.

Portfolio holder for children and families Councillor Sue Duffy said that expanding this offer to the community was a significant step forward.

“The expansion will also make it easier for local families to secure school places close to home,” – Councillor Sue Duffy.

She further noted that the improvements will provide “more space and improved facilities, helping them to learn and work in a brighter, more comfortable environment.”
