Today, August Egg Company, based in Hilmar, California, recalled more than 1.7 million eggs. This voluntary recall comes because there is potential for this product to be contaminated with salmonella. The recall affects brown cage-free and brown organic eggs. These eggs will be placed out across nine states from Feb. 3 – May 15, 2025. This action is in direct response to a deadly salmonella outbreak. A total of at least 79 people have gotten sick, including 21 who had to be hospitalized.
The sell-by dates for the recalled eggs are from March 4, 2025, to June 4, 2025. Consumers could have bought these potentially contaminated products at any number of retailers, including but not limited to Walmart, Food 4 Less, and Safeway.
