Luka Doncic Unveils Summer Transformation Ahead of EuroBasket and New Season

Luka Doncic, their 26-year-old all-world star and franchise centerpiece, has been in the news this summer for his jaw-dropping transformation. In a profile with Men’s Health, Doncic expressed his commitment to personal growth, stating, “Obviously, be the best that I can be, take care of myself.” This commitment is notable as he gears up for his role with Slovenia at EuroBasket in mid-August.

Doncic’s path to fitness started with the same kind of workout plan that would eventually keep him off the basketball court. It wasn’t until June that he was back on the field, but he’s clearly worked on some things this offseason that have him looking sharper now. Doncic is roughly 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds. He has been sincerely ripped in the past for his physique. According to reports, Luka’s weight has fluctuated a fair amount, raising red flags even for the Dallas Mavericks about his level of conditioning.

Somehow, Doncic found a way to still put up 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists per night last season. His offensive game was hindered when his playtime was reduced to just 50 games. A cascade of injuries followed in his ankle, calf, knee, and back, sidelining him from playing further. Prior to last season, Doncic played in a minimum of 61 games per season. His minimized role has been cause for great alarm for both him and the Mavericks.

The Mavericks expressed frustration over Doncic’s fitness issues, which may have contributed to his recent calf injury that he had been rehabbing for a month before joining the Los Angeles Lakers. Doncic is really working on these areas. He’s transforming his physique by eating healthier, working out regularly with a personalized fitness regimen. Photos published by Men’s Health show a noticeably lighter Doncic, with more definition and tone in his arms and overall musculature.

As a teacher, every year during the summer I would choose specific skills and areas to improve my practice. Doncic reiterated his commitment to improving every day. All of his work this offseason is an indication of that, a new start, blueprints for a debut worthy of a first full season with the Lakers.
