Lottery Error Leaves Thousands of Norwegians Disappointed

Thousands of Norwegians experienced a moment of joy that quickly turned to disappointment due to a significant error by Norsk Tipping, the national lottery operator. On Friday evening, a coding error resulted in… that entrants’ conversion accidentally took place. But instead of dividing the prize amounts by 100, the system mistakenly multiplied them. This deceived countless players into believing they had won far bigger amounts than they actually had.

On Friday, Norsk Tipping issued an apology for the mistake. They described the error as having affected thousands of entrants who were told of overestimated prizes. The company admitted that this situation caused considerable distress and promised to resolve the issue quickly.

On Saturday, the CEO of Norsk Tipping, Tonje Sagstuen, said she was sorry in a different announcement. She noted that lots of racers were already starting to make arrangements based on what they thought they’d won.

“I have received many messages from people who had managed to make plans for holidays, buying an apartment or renovating before they realized that the amount was wrong,” – Tonje Sagstuen

There was a coding error for one Eurojackpot draw, resulting in no winners. Due to this chasm between numbers of players, the jackpot ballooned up to a megadraw of 377 million Norwegian kroner, or $37.3 million. See you in the next draw on Tuesday! As we develop new games, Norsk Tipping wants to make sure that their integrity is preserved.

Following the incident, Tonje Sagstuen resigned as CEO and was replaced by Vegar Strand as acting CEO. In closing, Strand again affirmed the company’s commitment to fixing the problematic project and being transparent in the future.

“We deeply regret what has happened, and on behalf of us at Norsk Tipping I would like to apologize to everyone who was affected by this,” – Vegar Strand

Following the frightening incident, Norsk Tipping has attempted to reassure its customers. They’ll take steps to ensure similar mistakes aren’t made again moving forward. The organization stated it “sincerely apologizes to everyone who was notified of an incorrect prize amount.”
