Local Teacher Recognized with Prestigious National Award

Josh Bartle, a modern foreign languages teacher and senior leader at Clifton Community School, has received a Silver Pearson National Teaching Award, recognizing his significant influence on the lives of young people. Bartle has been selected from among thousands of other nominees. He is one of 93 recipients of this exceptional award, which honors educators who have had a permanent, positive impact on their communities.

The announcement was made by the Wickersley Partnership Trust on National Thank A Teacher Day, a day set aside for honoring educators nationwide. After years spent focusing on his craft as an established translator, Bartle started teaching—officially—in 2018. Through thoughtful policymaking, he continues to show that he believes every child should graduate from school ready and armed with the skills they need. His transformative work at Clifton Community School has made him beloved with co-workers and students.

Head teacher Anna Leng praised Bartle’s dedication, stating, “It is fantastic to see this being rewarded on a national level.” She emphasized his unwavering commitment, adding that he “works so hard, day in day out, for our students and school community.”

Bartle’s efforts have earned him the Silver Pearson Pearson National Teaching Award. Today, he finds himself in that same position—of being in the running for a gold teaching award, with winners to be announced in this coming November. This prestigious accolade is the latest acknowledgement of Bartle’s work as an innovative educator and changemaker, committed to creating a positive impact on the path of his students.

Bartle’s pedagogical practices go far beyond just the typical touchy-feely stuff. He personally engages with each of his students and has even fostered a climate where his students can really excel. Now, it’s clear to his colleagues how much positive change he has brought to the school. They attribute much of its success to his leadership and groundbreaking approach to language instruction.
