KPop Demon Hunters Soundtrack Reaches New Heights on Billboard Charts

The score and soundtrack of the animated, action-fantasy, “KPop Demon Hunters” is lit! The album has flown up to No. 1 on the Billboard Soundtracks chart for a record-setting seventh straight week. The film, which premiered on June 20, features a fictional K-pop girl group named Huntr/x, who navigate their public personas while secretly acting as demon hunters.

The centerpiece of the soundtrack is the song “Golden,” by emerging artist Huntr/x. This tune recently rocketed to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s quite the historic achievement, as it becomes the first ever No. 1 hit on this chart for a female K-pop act! With nearly 32 million streams, 7,000 sales, and 8.4 million radio airplay impressions in the United States, “Golden” has captured widespread attention and acclaim.

After its release, the soundtrack’s popularity has climbed very quickly. It just recently had its best week ever, crossing 100,000 101,000 equivalent album units and hitting No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Collectively, the “KPop Demon Hunters” music soundtrack has exceeded over 3 billion global streams combined thus far.

Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans emphasized the importance of collaborating with experienced K-pop producers to create a soundtrack that resonates with fans.

“Because we wanted the music to be really incredible and really speak to the K-pop fans and be legitimately fit into the K-pop space, we felt that it was important to partner with a Korean label,” – Kang

This accomplishment represents a historic breakthrough in our industry. It is the first fictional act to top the Billboard Soundtracks chart since “Encanto.” Moreover, it is the first all-female collective to accomplish this feat since Destiny’s Child in 2001.

“KPop Demon Hunters” not only showcases an engaging storyline but highlights the evolving landscape of K-pop in mainstream media. The pairing of infectious music and mesmerizing animation has, of course, only helped its monthslong stay at the top of the charts.
