Put in another way, King Charles III has been very productive in performing official duties while increasingly acknowledging and adapting to his health challenges. During Thursday, January 25, the King’s day included private audiences behind-the-scenes at Sandringham House — a great example of his dedication to royal duties. This was engagement just before he had to get treatment for a benign enlarged prostate.
During this visit, the King was presented with a very special gift. Floriculturist Safeena Khan then gifted him a bouquet modeled after the gardens surrounding his Highgrove residence. The interaction showed the King’s respect for nature and his role in the community.
“He asked me how I was, and I asked him how he was…” – Safeena Khan
As recently as January 17, King Charles was hospitalized for treatment of the prostate condition. On January 26 he had himself admitted to the London Clinic for specialist care. As luck would have it, Princess Kate was in the hospital, giving birth that same day. After spending nearly six weeks in the hospital, he was finally discharged on January 29. As he waved jubilantly from his car, a motley crowd of well-wishers–black, white, young, old–greeted him.
Though beset by recent health woes, King Charles has been quite active in public engagements. In March, he made an unannounced visit to Northern Ireland. There, he spoke to people who have or are living with cancer, inquiring about their journey and efforts taken to combat the side effects of their treatment.
Given the King’s departure due to illness, the King has provided reflections on his path. He remarked on the significance of diet in managing health, stating, “It’s sometimes about the diet and what you eat. It can help.” His frankness offers a unique insight to the way health care providers should manage their patients’ health.
Upon discharge from the hospital, then-Prince Charles reported that he was feeling better. Speaking during a visit to Bradford alongside Queen Camilla, he noted, “I’d like to think I’m on the better side [of my cancer journey].” Buckingham Palace has announced that the King suffers from a form of skin cancer. Unfortunately, it is prostate cancer, and he’s started outpatient treatment.
King Charles’s recent engagements greatly show his strength and determination to serve as a royal even while facing personal health emergencies. His actions do more than reinforce his dedication to public service, and provide inspiration to others going through similar battles.
