Jon Stewart offered a sharp critique of Donald Trump’s second term as he hosted Monday’s episode of The Daily Show. On the broadcast, Stewart took a look at some archival footage that caught present day Cabinet members. One was effusively praising Trump, in particular for his “leadership at the border.” He played up their pitches that Trump was offering you “a tremendous favor to your country.” This revealed the immense gulf between their performative rhetoric and the hard reality of governing.
In a scathing segment, Stewart reserved particular ire for the president’s inner circle, focusing on the opulence of White House decor. He likened its ostentatious decor to the crimes of Medieval monarchs and Middle Eastern dictators. He posited that this overblown efficiency style was doing something more insidious. Stewart emphasized how the extravagance of the decor really displays the power and privilege of the presidency. He went on to refer to it as a really great “Pinterest vibe.”
