Jon Stewart Challenges Elon Musk Over Interview Conditions

Jon Stewart recently extended an invitation to Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, to appear on "The Daily Show." Initially, Musk agreed to participate in the show with a light-hearted offer from Stewart, allowing Musk any amount of time he desired. However, the situation took a turn when Musk stipulated that the interview should air unedited. In response to this condition, Stewart expressed enthusiasm and willingness to accommodate Musk's request.

"After thinking about his offer, I thought, 'Hey, that's actually how the in-studio interviews normally air, is unedited. So, sure, we'd be delighted," – Jon Stewart

Despite the agreement, Musk reconsidered his decision after Stewart's acceptance of the terms. This interaction follows a series of exchanges involving Musk and a Trump adviser on social media, which might have influenced Musk's sudden change of heart. Stewart humorously addressed the situation, showcasing his hand adorned with a glued-on coffee mug. He had accidentally broken it during a passionate report, highlighting his dedication to the show.

In discussing Musk's reluctance to appear on the show, Stewart pointed out the perceived hypocrisy in Musk's accusations of partisanship against him.

"He then said, after saying he’d like to come on, 'Jon Stewart cannot be trusted.' And that I am a propagandist. And that I am not bipartisan," – Jon Stewart

Stewart further noted Musk's previous political engagements, including spending $270 million to support a presidential campaign and donning a custom Dark-MAGA hat in the Oval Office.

"Again, the guy who custom-made his own Dark-MAGA hat, that he wears to opine in the Oval Office with the president who he spent $270 million to elect, thinks I'm just too partisan." – Jon Stewart

Stewart humorously quipped about the network's programming flexibility, suggesting they could accommodate Musk as long as they wrapped up before the new season of South Park launches in May or June 2026.

"I'll be honest. I don't think this network makes any other programming," – Jon Stewart
