John Cena Transitions from Wrestling to Hollywood with New Role as President

One quick reminder though—don’t count John Cena out just yet! He’ll soon be starring as a fictional United States president in Amazon’s “Heads of State.” With a dream cast that includes the likes of Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra, those feats serve as another major milestone in Cena’s burgeoning successful career as an actor outside of wrestling.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cena opened up about using his physicality in a brand new way while making the film. He alluded to the usual director’s requests to show off his wrestling prowess.

“Every director is like, ‘Do some of that fighting stuff you do,’” – John Cena

Cena’s transition actually represents a critical moment in his life. He is at the twilight of his phenomenal 25-year in-ring career. He was recently featured on “Good Morning America.” In his first interview with host Michael Strahan, he further suggested that he’s really done with professional wrestling after his retirement tour, for real real this time. Cena is a winter appointment op-ed retirement six months in advance of the tour. He said he wanted to do something historic on this last pilgrimage home.

“I’m like, ‘I get really beat up and I’m good at picking people up and heavy things, but I don’t know any martial arts.’” – John Cena

“I said for the year I’d perform in 36 states,” he explained, reflecting on the extensive nature of his farewell tour.

With Cena’s last match lined up for December, he has become very conscious about how electric the crowd has been while he’s been working. As fans, we know what this tour represents and it truly has felt like the fans have been with them every step of the way.

Throughout his wrestling career, Cena has made a promise to his fans who have supported him for a quarter of a century. Though he’s leaving the ring for now, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him in wrestling.

“I still look good, I still feel good, I still feel like I can perform at a WWE level, but I also think it’s time for me to step aside and let the young talent step forward,” he stated.

As he walks into this next evolution in Tinseltown, Cena’s range is on full display. His devotion to the craft is as strong as ever. His most recent movie, “Heads of State,” a story about a Black presidential candidate in the U.S., premiered July 2.

As he embarks on this new chapter in Hollywood, Cena continues to demonstrate his versatility and dedication to his craft. His latest film, “Heads of State,” is set to premiere on July 2.
