Jessica Simpson, the Texas-born pop diva known for such hits as “I Wanna Love You Forever” and “With You,” is moving in an exciting new direction in her career. She just released her debut country EP, “Nashville Canyon, Pt. She is returning to the stage in a big way after a 15-year hiatus. That thrilling return was conceived after an especially sentimental encounter at her eldest daughter’s birthday party in Nashville.
Simpson’s career in the music industry started with pop hits such as “With You” and “Irresistible”. In 2008, she made the move to Nashville by releasing her first full length country album, “Do You Know”. Among its achievements, the album reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and No. 4 on Top Album Sales. After this success, soon after came an abrupt turn in the other direction when Simpson’s contract with Sony Nashville was dissolved.
Looking back on her exit from the label, Simpson revealed that they weren’t the only ones leaving her bewildered and upset.
“I was mad at music a bit. After being dropped with a number-one country album — I was dropped, and I just never understood it. They just said I would never recoup if I didn’t give them part of the brand, but my brand was already successful.” – Jessica Simpson
Through it all, Simpson’s passion for music never wavered. Her impressive set at Luck Reunion 2025 in March was yet another milestone on her exciting, albeit still fresh, road back to performing live. This surprise set was inspired by a personal experience: her daughter’s birthday celebration in Nashville, where they opted for a unique twist on tradition.
“Instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday’ she wanted us to sing ‘I Saw the Light’ and play Hank Williams that morning we were in Nashville,” she recalled.
This inspiring moment brought Simpson’s love for performing back to life. In her acceptance speech, she reflected on what an indelible mark that experience had made on her artistic path.
“And I woke her up with that song and it just hit me. The light. It was like, ‘The light’s here.’” – Jessica Simpson
Simpson reflects on coming from a culturally rich background. She’s releasing the song on her own Nashville Canyon label, enjoying the independence that creative freedom brings.
“This is where I’m born free,” she stated, highlighting the significance of Nashville in her life and career.
