Jeanine Pirro Appointed as Top Federal Prosecutor in Washington, DC

Jeanine Pirro, now officially the full-time occupant of the chair of the top fed cop in Washington, DC. Floor vote on her confirmation in Senate came back razor thin at 50-45. This appointment is a stunning coup and remarkable pay-dirt for Pirro. He draws upon his deep experience as an attorney, journalist, and civic leader.

Pirro’s legal career started shortly after graduating from Albany Law School in 1975. She first achieved notoriety as an elected judge on New York’s Westchester County court in 1990. Later, she was elected to three terms as that county’s district attorney, earning a reputation for her brutal tough-on-crime approach. She was the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia for a short time this past May. From 2012 to 2014, as a Primus deputy, she put her stamp on more than a few headline-grabbing cases.

Prior to her confirmation, Pirro rose to national fame as a star co-host on the Fox News program The Five. From 2011 to 2022, for 11 years, she hosted Justice with Judge Jeanine. Throughout her tenure, she addressed a large spectrum of legal and civic matters. Her iconic time on television allowed her the ability to connect with a large audience. It also drew criticism, particularly for her role in a high-stakes defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems.

Pirro’s political ambitions were clearly bigger than her media career. She ran high-profile challenges to U.S. Senate and New York attorney general, but sadly lost in both efforts. Those losses, however, wouldn’t completely erode her impact—especially in the powerful conservative ideological sphere. She is known for authoring several books, including Liars, Leakers, and Liberals: The Case Against the Anti-Trump Conspiracy, which reflects her strong political views.

Her personal life has not been free of scandal. Pirro’s former spouse, Albert Pirro, was convicted in 2000 on conspiracy and tax evasion charges. In a very controversial decision made on his last day in office, President Donald Trump pardoned Albert Pirro.

As the new U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Pirro will now directly oversee all federal prosecutions. She’ll be supervising prosecution of cases in one of the nation’s most high-profile and important jurisdictions. This position comes with great power, especially in light of the current political awakening to and spotlight on law enforcement practices.
