Japan has booked its ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 5-0 thrashing of Bahrain. Japan’s win today provides them with a berth in the top two automatic qualification slots for Asia Group C. This is their eighth straight trip to the lucrative competition. The U.S., Canada and Mexico will co-host the 2026 World Cup. The Asian qualifiers Japan prevailed easily through the third round of Asian qualifying. The two best teams from each of the three six-team groups move on to the World Cup proper. The Samurai Blue’s historic victory was capped by second-half goals from Daichi Kamada and Takefusa Kubo. Their efforts ensured Japan's position among the elite teams heading to the 22nd edition of the World Cup, set to take place across North America.

They aim for their seventh appearance on the world stage, benefitting from the new qualification format that allows more teams from Asia to qualify.
