James Gunn has officially announced the next installment in the “Superman” universe, Man of Tomorrow. The film is scheduled to be released to theaters on July 9, 2027. It’s riding high on the coattails of WB’s soon-to-be-released 2025 “Superman” picture, already well over $600 million worldwide and counting.
>David Corenswet takes on the role of Superman, while Nicholas Hoult portrays Lex Luthor in both the 2025 film and “Man of Tomorrow.” Gunn, who has been acting as Co-Chairman and CEO of DC Studios, has been excited about what lies ahead for the franchise.
The new “Superman” film features a diverse and powerful cast! Rachel Brosnahan leads the cast as Lois Lane with a supporting cast that includes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. Gunn has indicated that he’s finished the treatment for what he calls the “Superman Saga.”
Gunn shared details about “Man of Tomorrow” during a recent announcement, aiming to assure fans that production will commence soon. He stated, “I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga’.”
Immediately following the announcement of “Man of Tomorrow,” Corenswet and Hoult enthusiastically jumped onto Instagram. They released character reveals and production art, which only stoked fandom’s excitement further.

Gunn’s plans for the Superman franchise, if anything, reflect a desire to strengthen its narrative depth and character development substantially. He plans to have “Man of Tomorrow” go into production immediately after September 3, 2025. This timeline should prevent the movement’s momentum from the first film from white-hatting.
As excitement builds around the new Superman saga, fans can look forward to both immediate and future releases that promise to deepen their connection to this iconic superhero.
