Jair Bolsonaro Hospitalized Amid Ongoing Legal Troubles

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is in the hospital. He’s in the process of getting a number of medical tests and an upcoming outpatient procedure to excise some skin lesions. The operation took place on Sunday. By Tuesday, Bolsonaro was not well and requested to be seen urgently because of intense hiccups, vomiting, and hypotension.

At 70 years old, Bolsonaro is now being kept under house arrest. This state of affairs is the result of his 2021 conviction for masterminding a coup d’état that involved plans to kill former President and now political rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He was sentenced to 327 months (more than 27 years) in prison. Since August, he has been under house arrest for supposedly violating court ordered restrictions. These restrictions, among others, include bans on his social media and cell phone usage.

When Bolsonaro’s health deteriorated on Tuesday, correctional police officers had to escort the former president to get the treatment he needs. He had a battery of tests and is currently on intravenous medication that’s curing him.

He was then hospitalized fewer than seven days following his conviction. This announcement came as even more unwelcome news, further complicating what’s described as a nearly unthinkably tumultuous period of their lives.

Bolsonaro’s wife, Michelle, expressed positivity in an early update on his condition, telling supporters,

“I ask for everyone’s prayers so that it is nothing serious.”

As the situation continues to unfold, it is uncertain how these ongoing health ailments will affect the ex-president’s legal struggles or trajectory moving forward. His medical condition is not in question. It calls into question his ability to effectively engage in legal proceedings from his house arrest location.

“Everything will be all right!”

As the situation develops, it remains unclear how Bolsonaro’s health issues will impact his legal battles or his future. His medical condition has raised questions about the extent of his ability to engage in legal proceedings while under house arrest.
