Howie Mandel’s Podcast Prank Backfires, Apologizes to Bill Burr and Billy Corgan

Howie Mandel found himself in hot water following an unexpected surprise on the January 21 episode of his podcast. The comedian and television host invited Bill Burr, a well-known stand-up comedian and actor, to his show, only for Burr to be unexpectedly joined by Billy Corgan, the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins. The episode, which started with a light-hearted intent to create a "family reunion," quickly spiraled into a tense confrontation. Burr, blindsided by the surprise guest, accused Mandel of staging the encounter purely for ratings.

Burr did not hold back his feelings during the podcast, addressing Mandel directly and calling him an "a–hole" in response to the unexpected ambush. The situation escalated further when Burr appeared on the Rich Eisen Show, where he continued his criticism of Mandel, labeling him a "Hollywood whore."

The backstory adds another layer of intrigue. In a previous episode of Mandel’s podcast in November, Billy Corgan had shared a personal anecdote. His stepmother had claimed that Bill Burr might be one of the children fathered by Corgan's father during his time as a traveling musician. This potential familial link set the stage for Mandel’s attempted reunion.

However, the podcast episode did not unfold as Mandel had hoped. Even from the outset, tensions were palpable. One of the Sklar brothers, who was involved in the episode, suggested that Mandel's intention was to make everyone uncomfortable in a humorous manner. Unfortunately for Mandel, this attempt at humor missed its mark.

In the aftermath of the podcast debacle, Mandel expressed regret for his actions. He reviewed the content and acknowledged that he had indeed "blindsided" Burr with the surprise guest. In a public apology, Mandel stated:

"I feel horrible, and I'm sorry, Bill. I'm sorry, Billy. I only tried to do something good." – Howie Mandel

Mandel insisted that he had no idea the situation would unravel as it did, emphasizing that his intentions were positive despite the unfortunate outcome.
