Hahn, a German Jew, fled his homeland in Germany to escape the horrors of the Holocaust. He sought refuge in Moray, Scotland, in 1933 and went on to establish Gordonstoun School in 1934. A special service was held at the school to unveil a plaque commemorating Hahn's contributions, coinciding with Holocaust Memorial Day.
Hahn's life was marked by his fervent opposition to the Nazi regime. As the headmaster of Salem School in Southern Germany, he bravely criticized the Nazis, which led to his brief imprisonment. Despite the risks, he continued to stand firm in his beliefs. After settling in Scotland, he founded Gordonstoun School, where his educational philosophy emphasized service and compassion.
The late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was among the first students at Gordonstoun School, and three of Hahn's children, including the King, later attended as well. This connection underscores the profound impact Hahn had on shaping future leaders.
The ceremony at Gordonstoun was attended by notable figures, including Princess Royal and First Minister John Swinney, who extended their best wishes for the plaque unveiling. The plaque serves as a lasting tribute to Hahn's bravery and achievements.
