Historic Milestone Achieved as NASA Astronauts Conduct Fifth All-Female Spacewalk

We want to salute our NASA astronauts who just made history with their fifth all-female spacewalk. This historic and monumental achievement took place beyond Earth’s atmosphere, near the International Space Station. This monumental activity highlights the significance in the ongoing battle toward establishing gender equity in the industry of space exploration. CTV News covered this historic accomplishment on April 28, 2025.

It was fulfilling to see all the astronauts’ training and teamwork on display during the spacewalk as they completed critical maintenance tasks. This mission further illuminated their exceptional technical capabilities. It had an important propulsive effect as well, inspiring generations of young women to pursue careers in science and engineering. The astronauts involved in this historic event were well-prepared, having undergone extensive training to ensure their success during the spacewalk.

With Christina Koch and Jessica Meir’s first all–female spacewalk in October of 2019, NASA’s sweeping history for gender equality accelerated to new heights. Since then, NASA has taken more intentional efforts to broaden inclusivity and diversity in its astronaut corps. The fifth all-female spacewalk in history just took place! This milestone is an important indicator of the agency’s commitment to producing an environment that allows women to be key players in space exploration.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy praised the astronauts for their achievements and underlined the significance of representation in STEM careers. The successful execution of the spacewalk illustrates how women have increasingly taken on leadership roles in historically male-dominated areas, paving the way for future female astronauts.
