Guernsey Pupils Eagerly Await GCSE and Level 2 Results

Hundreds of students around Guernsey are set to get their eagerly-anticipated GCSE and Level 2 results today. Individual schools across the island have made their own decisions about when to distribute these critical academic outcomes. Perhaps most importantly, this is a historic breakthrough for students as they measure their own success.

Elizabeth College will be the first institution to distribute results, welcoming students from 08:30 BST. This relatively early start provides the opportunity for pupils to come together and share in the excitement of their results. Following closely behind, St Sampson’s High School will hand out results beginning at 09:00, while Les Varendes High School will commence distribution at 09:30. Each school will have independently scheduled their own schedule, which will create another layer of drama as students get to find out what they won or lost.

This year has an extra special one — the story of La Mare de Carteret. It won’t be long before pupils are opening their GCSE results, putting an end to this practice. The school is currently in the process of turning itself into a temporary sixth form centre, so this year’s results are a big deal for this school’s students. The completion of their secondary education is a huge accomplishment. It also prepares them to take the next step on their own academic paths.

As students sit on the brink of judgement day, the environment is one of hope peppered with palpable fear. This week’s publication of GCSE and Level 2 results is, therefore, a critical juncture. It does deeply impact your future access to educational and career opportunities. For some, including our outstanding 2023 AASHE Award winners, these results signal years of commitment and perseverance.
