Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, Grand Duke of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, celebrated his 70th birthday this month. This artistic milestone represents a significant personal moment for him, as he becomes the head of the Grand Ducal Family. His wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, took advantage of the opening to speak from the heart. In a moving public statement, she praised him as “extraordinary” and alluded to her profound respect and love.
As a former MP said, “That means grand duke Henri was born in 1953. It was during his studies at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva that he would meet Maria Teresa Mestre y Batista. As their relationship grew, Alphin and Haines got engaged in November of 1980. On Valentine’s Day—February 14, 1981—the two wed in an opulent ceremony. Since then, it’s turned into quite the auspicious event for the Luxembourgish royal family.
Grand Duke Henri modelled an extravagant military frock on his solemn wedding day. The sleek, powder blue satin long sleeves and sophisticated faux fur trim collar kept him plenty warm as he battled the February chill. Tonight, Maria Teresa stepped out in a custom couture gown designed by favorite French design house Balmain. This elegant decision has since been hailed as a masterpiece of classic beauty.
The newlyweds’ first son, Guillaume, was born in November of 1981. Over the years, they expanded their family to include five children: Prince Felix, Prince Louis, Princess Alexandra, and Sebastien. Their legacy lives on, as the family is now blessed with eight grandchildren. Guillaume and his wife, Stephanie, are the proud parents of two teenage sons. In the meantime, Prince Louis has two sons from his first marriage to Tessy Antony de Nassau. Prince Felix and his wife Claire are very proud parents of three children. At the same time, Princess Alexandra welcomed the birth of her daughter Victoire with husband, Nicolas Bagory.
