Graduates of East Sussex School of Circus Arts Ready to Launch Careers

The East Sussex School of Circus Arts in Hailsham, which has produced a number of successful performers, is celebrating an extraordinary achievement. After nine months of rigorous training, its inaugural cohort has officially graduated! Brazilian educator and founder Renato Pires, the founder and current teacher of the school. Most recently, the school was given the formal title of a sixth form college. This makes it one of just two institutions in England entirely devoted to training in circus arts.

The students have spent the last nine months perfecting their craft, with an emphasis on strengths, originality and uniqueness in circus art. That intensive curriculum has armed them with some key performance techniques. It has equally prepared them on the corporate side of the circus world. Their efforts came together for a spectacular graduation show, a testament to their discipline and commitment to the art form.

Renato Pires shared his pride over the impressive work that students were able to accomplish. He drove home the infinite possibilities to whomever applies themselves, saying,

“There is nothing we can’t do, everything is possible if you put your mind into it.” – Renato Pires

One of this year’s graduates, Alisha Bristow, said that she first got the idea to run away with the circus after seeing a Cirque du Soleil performance. Reflecting on her journey, she recalled,

“I went to see a circus and remember thinking ‘I just absolutely would love to do that.’” – Alisha Bristow

Bristow can’t wait to begin her career in the circus world. Vishakha and her fellow graduates are already counting the days until they can take their distinct talents to audiences around the country.

Fellow alum Summer Spice reflected on the nurturing space created by the East Sussex School of Circus Arts. She stated,

“I love being here, the people, the environment. It’s a family, it’s amazing.” – Summer Spice

The creation of an official sixth form also represents the next step for the East Sussex School of Circus Arts. This shift opens up a clearer educational pathway. At the same time, it preserves the innovation and creativity that originally attracted most students to the circus lifestyle.

As these graduates prepare to enter the competitive circuit of circus performance, they take with them that rigor, resilience and artistry. They bring an indescribable quality, a deep sense of community, that the school has developed in them. Given their deep commitment and love for the field, they will undoubtedly do amazing things to advance the circus arts.
