Google Maps just released their biggest feature update yet, making the app easier to use, especially for iPhone users using Apple CarPlay. This update has been heavy laden with reports of Timeline data disappearing, alarming millions of users around the planet. Particularly problematic, as The Verge reported, was that it mostly wiped saved Timeline data, eliminating old search results. Genevieve Park, a spokesperson for Google, acknowledged that there was indeed a “brief technical issue.” This problem led to permanent Timeline data disappearing for some users.
New Features and Upgrades
Google Maps recently launched a huge new feature along those lines! This greatly expands mobile capability pace of iPhone users, especially those that use Apple CarPlay. This upgrade featured a variety of new safety adjustments focused on improving user safety while navigating. Google Maps has added a new feature to encourage social distance driving. Yet this new addition is poised to take carpooling to the next level. Besides expanding support for group navigation, this feature provides a more robust and user-friendly navigation platform for various use cases.
Accidental Data Removal
While those were all promising developments, there was an accidental withdrawal of functionality on Google’s part. Users that haven’t used the cloud backup function are impossible to restore their lost Timeline data. The development has sent Google Maps users–particularly those who have come to depend on the app for their daily micro-transportation needs–into an understandable uproar. While Google Maps has pretty excellent navigation features, a new technical fiasco has accidentally exposed the app’s biggest flaw. It points out the importance of data backup in the cloud.
The Cloud Backup Solution
Only users who enabled the automatic cloud backup feature will be able to recover any deleted Timeline information. This unfortunate event further highlights cloud storage’s irreplaceable role in protecting user data from unexpected technical failures. Never fear – Google is on the case. Until then, we encourage users to explore cloud backup services to ensure that their favorite navigation history and personalized search results are protected from future data losses.
