The Department for Education has given the green light for the merger of two primary schools in Gloucester. Moat Primary Academy and Robinswood Primary Academy will join forces under the management of the Greenshaw Learning Trust. This decision will result in the closure of Moat Primary Academy, effective from September 1st. The move aims to strengthen the educational framework within the Matson community and promises a more resilient learning environment for its students.
The Greenshaw Learning Trust, which currently manages both institutions, conducted a consultation before the decision was finalized. The trust emphasized that the merger would "enhance educational opportunities for all children" and "create a more resilient learning environment that will serve the Matson community for years to come."
However, not everyone is convinced about the merger's benefits. MP Alex McIntyre has expressed concerns over the community's involvement in the decision-making process.
"We don't think the community has been involved as much as we would like," said MP Alex McIntyre.
Despite reservations, McIntyre urged collaboration to ensure a smooth transition and optimal educational outcomes for the students at the new school.
"I know this is not a decision that everyone will agree with, but now it has been made let's work together to make sure that all of those children at the new school in September 2025 are getting the best possible education," he stated.
The decision to merge comes amidst ongoing discussions about resource allocation and educational quality improvement within the area. By consolidating resources and expertise, the Greenshaw Learning Trust believes it can provide a more comprehensive educational experience for students.
"My priority throughout all of this is firstly what is best for the children so they get the best possible education and secondly that local people's voices are heard in this process," McIntyre added.
