Last week, George Clooney was in the news for praising his longtime friend and former ER co-star, Noah Wyle. Wyle currently appears in another medical drama, the new series The Pitt. Clooney and Wyle previously starred together in the acclaimed television show ER. Clooney’s on-screen counterpart was Doctor Doug Ross, while Wyle played Doctor John Carter. Their real-life friendship has continued since filming the pilot of ER. Clooney’s remarks were a testament to the incredible mutual admiration they have for one another.
Wyle took on the role of Pitt to much acclaim, including from Clooney himself. He shouted, “What an honorable and gifted young man! As an elder, I am filled with joy at his achievement on the program! It’s an incredible production and he really nails it with his performances. This warm praise is emblematic of Clooney’s attitude, beaming with pride for Wyle’s success on a cutthroat television stage.
As close as the cast has remained over the past years, as Kevin says, they still have a lot of special behind-the-scenes ER moments to discuss. They actually appeared together in a season 1 episode of Friends, a strong indication of their brilliant chemistry and camaraderie. Indeed, as Clooney put it in a recent interview, that kind of memorization of complex medical terminology is something Wyle has always been far better at than Clooney himself.
“He never had trouble, he always could do it,” – George Clooney
Both actors were praised for their work on ER, with Wyle landing five Emmy nominations and Clooney two. Their respective performances were instrumental in creating both the success and legacy of the show that she created. Clooney The future of acting… Constitutional Crisis? He was a lead in the Tony-nominated Broadway play Good Night, and Good Luck, which Wyle charmingly ducked into during their life/career talks.
On April 3, it would have been Clooney’s opening night for his Broadway debut. He was flanked by Wyle and his other ER castmates, Julianna Margulies and Anthony Edwards. The 2016 reunion was an important one for Clooney. Most importantly, it continued to connect the deep friendships made while on ER that would prove to be long-lasting.
Wyle is really getting the distance, range and subtlety required for his role on The Pitt. Clooney’s support serves to emphasize their long, mutual journey and the tremendous impact they’ve had on one another’s careers. We were amazed at the connection these two performers had. It serves as a poignant reminder of the powerful bonds that can develop within the entertainment industry, particularly among individuals who navigate adversity in tandem.
