ESR Tech joined forces with Amazon and Home Depot to announce one of the largest recalls in history. This is about its HaloLock line of wireless power banks, which have potential for dangerous fire and explosion hazards. Last week, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a significant recall. This impacts more than 30,000 units that were manufactured and sold here in the United States and Canada.
Specific models recalled can be found on the manufacturer’s website and include HaloLock 2G520, 2G505B, and 2G512B, which are compact pocket-sized chargers for use with mobile devices. These chargers came in all sorts of colors such as navy blue, baby blue, charcoal, cream, and black. Five circular LED display lights per unit let you know the battery status at a glance.
The recall follows a series of scary stories involving fires and explosions associated with the power banks. A Reddit user shared photos of an ESR 10,000mAh wireless charger catching fire on their property seven months prior to the settlement announcement. This tragic event has recently highlighted major questions about the safety of these devices. The CPSC emphasized the potential danger, stating that “the lithium-ion battery in the recalled power banks can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.”
Between launch in September 2023 and July 2025, nearly 24,000 unique customers in the US bought power banks. In Canada, almost 10,000 units were sold in that same timeframe. If you have these devices, stop using them immediately and take safety measures. Please cease use right away and abide by ESR Tech’s recall notice for the product.
ESR Tech is working on the front lines with large retailers and corporations to protect consumers and be a step ahead of wrongdoers. They do not provide any mechanisms to require customers to return the recalled units, especially for a full refund or an equal/greater replacement.
