Eddington, a horror western film directed by Ari Aster, made its debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 2025. It’s hard to imagine a more impressive cast than the new film, which is led by Austin Butler, Emma Stone and Pedro Pascal. Set in May 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Eddington gets a fly-on-the-wall’s view. In doing so, it touches on incredibly potent themes of isolation and fear.
The premiere attracted a host of celebrities, including Angelina Jolie, Jeremy Strong, Julia Garner, Luke Grimes, and Clifton Collins Jr. The red carpet event was a spectacle unlike any other, where fans and press collided in a colorful frenzy, eager for a glimpse of the stars.
In the middle of the red carpet poses, a surprise guest joined the scene and quickly stole the attention when a bee buzzed in. Despite the scene’s creepy implications, the moment served as a fun on-set distraction for the cast, especially Emma Stone, who was filmed popping off-screen to avoid the bug.
“Buzz off, pal!”
Social media quickly picked up on the incident, with one user humorously noting, “The memes that’ll come from Emma Stone dodging a bee at Cannes? Already iconic—and they haven’t even been made yet.”
As the crowd settled following the bee incident, the cast took time to discuss the film’s themes and their experiences working together. Eddington, in theaters July 18 from A24. So get ready for a totally awesome and totally bodacious trip back to one of the most radical times in American history!
