Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh Embark on Tour of Scottish Isles

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, along with the Princess of Wales, are currently preparing to go on their first official tour through the Scottish Isles. They share an exciting desire to engage with local communities and prove their commitment. This time, we will be island hopping to the Isles of Kerrera, Seil, Easdale and Luing. The tour serves not only to reinforce connections with the communities’ leaders and residents, but to foster understanding of their rich histories and cultural traditions.

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, will accompany her husband the Prince of Wales on what will be a historic visit. From her place on the itinerary, she will be front and center at the naming ceremony. The occasion will be the commissioning of HMS Glasgow — a state-of-the-art, Type 26 anti-submarine frigate. She was appointed the Sponsor of HMS Glasgow in June 2021. In this new portfolio, she will have a prominent role in the ceremonial event, emphasizing the importance of naval improvements to the United Kingdom’s defense posture.

HMS Glasgow is set to deliver crucial defence for the UK’s continuous nuclear deterrent and aircraft carriers. This advanced warship reflects the UK’s commitment to maintaining a robust naval presence and ensuring maritime security in an increasingly complex global environment. The Duke and Duchess’s participation in this important event demonstrates their continued commitment to championing the Royal Navy and its work.

During their official visit to the picturesque Scottish Isles, we hope the new Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh meet and engage with their future subjects. They’ll learn about the special and often complex issues island communities must navigate. This goodwill is one of the principal benefits of their visit and is the basis for relationship-building. It underscores critical challenges that impact these far-flung communities.

The Isles of Kerrera, Seil, Easdale and Luing all have their own unique beauties that make Scotland so culturally diverse. Through their interactions, the royal couple aims to highlight the importance of preserving these unique environments while promoting sustainable development.
