Charges Dropped in Liam Payne Case: Roger Nores Cleared, Sues for Defamation

In a dramatic turn of events, an Argentinian court has cleared Roger Nores of all charges linked to the tragic death of his friend, Liam Payne. Payne fell from a third-floor balcony in October 2024, a shocking incident that rocked the entertainment world. Nores, who was with Payne just hours before his untimely death, faced allegations of negligent homicide, charges that have now been dismissed. The court also absolved two hotel employees of any wrongdoing.

An autopsy revealed that Payne had a dangerous mix of drugs in his system at the time of his death. However, the court determined that Nores did not provide Payne with alcohol or drugs. Had he been convicted of negligent homicide, Nores could have faced up to 15 years in prison.

"I know it for a fact, like, there's no way any charge is gonna hold so … I was totally, totally expecting this," stated Roger Nores.

The case took another twist as Nores announced legal action against Liam Payne's father, Geoff Payne, in the United States. Nores alleges that Geoff Payne made false statements to authorities about his role in the incident. The lawsuit seeks an apology from Geoff Payne for defamation.

"That lawsuit's going to stay there until I get an apology. Simple as that," declared Nores.

Nores has firmly denied being responsible for Payne's care or control on the night of the tragedy. His defense lawyer emphasized that Nores should only be considered a friend, not a guardian or caretaker. Despite the distressing circumstances, Nores describes the entire experience as surreal and challenging.

"It's been a real weird experience and it's been obviously really hard," he expressed.

The court's decision leaves only two individuals in custody, both accused of providing drugs to Payne. Photos taken from Payne's hotel room revealed a scene of chaos, with a smashed TV and drugs scattered across the floor. Nores and Payne had been seen together frequently in Snapchats leading up to the fatal night, where Nores described Payne as "one of my best friends in the world."
