We’re fortunate that a Canadian computer scientist has become a co-recipient of the prestigious A.M. Turing Award. This highly coveted honor is informally known as the Nobel Prize of computing. It acknowledges those who have had immense impact on the field of computer science. The award is a tribute to the recipients’ often unheralded but critical work to accelerate technology. It is accompanied by an equally impressive prize of US$1 million, courtesy of Google.
The A.M. Turing Award is named after British mathematician and Second World War codebreaker Alan Turing. Since 1966, this award has celebrated outstanding young scientists and engineers annually. Their pioneering efforts have had a tremendous and lasting influence on the computing field. This year’s award shines a light on the innovators who developed the first public key encryption technology in the mid-1980s.
