Cameron Norrie Shocks Carlos Alcaraz at Paris Masters

Cameron Norrie scored a big upset on Day 2 of the Paris Masters. He upset world no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in an exhilarating men’s singles final. Norrie won the match 4-6 6-3 6-4, the biggest career victory by far for the left-handed Norrie. This victory ended Alcaraz’s astonishing 17-match winning streak at the ATP Masters 1000 level. It shot Norrie into the tournament’s third round!

The final played out over an action-packed two hours and 22 minutes, as Norrie showed his resolve time and time again to fight back from a set behind. In the decisive moments of the final set, he saved two crucial break points during the seventh game, demonstrating his ability to withstand pressure against one of the sport’s best players. No surprises then as Norrie takes the victory, equaling his career-best showing in Paris from 2021. This win represents his first venture into the last 16 at a Masters event since he made it that far in Rome earlier this season.

Norrie’s achievement follows a disappointing first-round exit in qualifiers at the same event last year. He looked back on his experience of coming back from injury and how this match meant a lot to him personally.

“I have been coming back from my injury. Last year, I lost first round of qualies here.” – Cameron Norrie

The reaction of this British player gives you an idea of how thrilled that player was with his performance. He dubbed the win “massive” and acknowledged it as the biggest victory of his career to date. Norrie admitted it was a difficult task coming up against Alcaraz. He knew to have Alcaraz be one of the most confident players on the tour.

“I have just tried to enjoy my tennis in the second half of the year and I was able to do that and to get a win like this, the biggest of my career, my first over a world number one and especially against the most confident player in the world right now.” – Cameron Norrie

This win sees Norrie progress to play either Valentin Vacherot or Arthur Rinderknech in the next round. He’s creating quite a run through the tournament, winning over fans and analysts in the process. Everyone will be looking closely to see if he can keep this high level of play up and build on this success at the Paris Masters.
