Buckingham Palace Set for Major Revamp as Queen Camilla Pushes for Library Addition

Buckingham Palace, the official residence of King Charles and Queen Camilla, is in the midst of an enormous renovation. These improvements to connectivity are projected to cost only £369 million. That whole, wide-ranging project—which the palace has called a “complete overhaul” and understood as an effort of modernisation—will install the old infrastructure of the palace. The monarchs intend to move back to their castle after extensive renovations are finished, projected at not before 2027.

The palace is known for its stunning 775 rooms. It would be the first time it has had a library since King George IV gifted the King’s Library to the British Museum prior to the major renovations in the early 19th century. Queen Camilla is said to be keen on bringing this cultural and historical feature back to Buckingham Palace. A local source told us that she’s been instrumental in exploring the possibility of having a library included in the planned renovations.

In fact, King Charles and Queen Camilla were set to return to Buckingham Palace while the renovation was underway. Due to the continuous work, it has pushed back their return. In another break from tradition, over the past few years, Prince William and Princess Kate have decided to not live in the palace. Instead, they are preparing to move into Forest Lodge later this year, which could serve as their “forever home” along with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The renovation project will update vital services, including electrical and plumbing systems, while returning these historic spaces to their original glory.

“This is a nail in the coffin for the palace’s past,” – Daily Mail

As construction progresses, the royal couple remains committed to ensuring that Buckingham Palace meets contemporary standards without sacrificing its rich heritage.
