Brody Jenner Reflects on The Hills Season 3 with Humor and Regret

Brody Jenner on the third season of MTV’s reality soap opera, The Hills. He made clear that he would rather it not be written at all. The season focused heavily on his tumultuous on-off relationship with Lauren Conrad, which he later confessed was fake. Jenner’s deep reflection on the experience is a poignant view into not only the difficulty of reality television, but his transition since.

In a cheeky but serious on-camera glimpse, Jenner told producers that he hated having to film the after show season retrospective. He summed it up pretty dramatically, saying, “The only thing worse than a toddler kick to the groin is having to watch season 3 again.” His comments unambiguously betray his unease, and we’re here for it. The reality competition show’s third season certainly helped cement his public persona. This reformation was mostly the outcome of the four-act courtship he pursued with Conrad.

Brody Jenner is a member of the legendary Jenner clan. As the son of Caitlyn Jenner and former step-brother to the Kardashian mob, he’s always been in the public eye. His sometimes traumatic reality television career features cameos on Keeping Up With the Kardashians as well as the aptly titled, short-lived Princes of Malibu. He competed on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test season 3, demonstrating his versatility beyond the realm of scripted drama.

His story arc with Conrad was one of the biggest strengths of season 3. Spencer Pratt’s orchestrations were the key to propelling Jenner into this made-up relationship. Pratt famously maneuvered him into dumping Nicole Richie so that he could join a contrived double date with Conrad. Reflecting on this moment, Pratt cheekily asked, “What hits worse: rewatching the show or a toddler kick to the balls?”

For all the hoo-ha of his former life, Jenner’s private life seems to be flourishing. Still, love found him for real after The Hills aired, and he and now fiancée Tia Blanco welcomed their first child together in 2023. It’s a very different chapter than the textured, rehearsed storylines from his days on the small screen.
