Mark Raymond Gibbon, a 62-year-old British national, now must answer to grave charges. Accused of attempting to drown his daughter-in-law on a remote family trip to a Florida resort, the series remains suspended to this day. The crash that killed Gibbon happened early Sunday evening at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, where the University of Cincinnati student was vacationing with his family.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Gibbon, of Beaconsfield, England, got into an intense dispute with his 33-year-old daughter-in-law. The case touched on matters involving his estranged grandchildren. The fight turned violent rapidly, leading to numerous injuries. Gibbons is alleged to have repeatedly pushed the victim’s head under water, forcing her to almost drown by preventing her from breathing.
This led the sheriff’s office to respond very quickly to a call about a disturbance at the resort. Upon arrival, deputies located Gibbon in the area of the pool. Witnesses told the paper that the victim’s 9-year-old daughter jumped into the pool as her mother fell in. She fought with everything she had to keep her mom afloat.
Gibbon was then charged with resisting arrest and interfering with official acts and was transported to Polk County Jail. He is currently charged with second-degree attempted murder and battery. The effects of the circumstance have drawn worries about how travelers were acting in the impacted towns, causing regional authorities to defend the impact.
“It’s great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same,” – Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd
In the press conference, Sheriff Judd went further to stress how serious Gibbon’s actions were. Due to Mr. Gibbon’s inability to check his rage, he will likely be spending a considerable amount more time in Florida than he had originally planned.”
A recent lawsuit illustrates the hidden hazards that lurk even in environments where people are supposed to be relaxing. Investigations are continuing, and Gibbon remains in custody. He now must endure the very real effects of his alleged actions while on what would have otherwise been a family vacation.
